Shop Moissanite Engagement Rings

A moissanite engagement ring gives you strong sparkle and a larger-looking stone for your budget. Choose a style, then pick your stone, shape and metal. Popular starting points are the solitaire and the halo, and every moissanite engagement ring can be personalised with a free custom design.

Moissanite Shapes

We offer nine moissanite shapes. Pick the shape first, then match it to your style and your hand.

Round and Oval

Round is the classic shape and shows plenty of sparkle. A moissanite oval ring looks bigger on the hand and lengthens the finger. Browse our oval moissanite ring range.

Cushion and Emerald

Cushion has soft corners and a romantic glow. An emerald cut moissanite ring has long, clean lines. Our stones are eye-clean, which suits this open style.

Pear, Princess, Radiant, Marquise and Asscher

Pear is a teardrop. Princess is a sharp square. Radiant is a cut-corner rectangle with lively sparkle. Asscher is a square step cut. A marquise moissanite ring is long with two points, so ask for V-prongs to protect them.

Popular Moissanite Carat Sizes

Our moissanite comes in 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 carat sizes. Sizes use diamond equivalent weight, so a 1-carat moissanite matches the size of a 1-carat diamond. Moissanite is about 8% lighter than diamond, so at the same true weight, it measures slightly larger. Compare millimetres, not carats.

Size Round width (approx.) Best for
1 carat 6.5 mm Classic engagement rings
2 carat 8.2 mm Statement engagement rings
3 carat 9.4 mm Bold rings and pendants
4 carat 10.3 mm Luxury designs and centrepieces
5 carat 11.1 mm Dramatic, premium pieces

Most buyers start with 1 carat or 2 carats. Widths are estimates for round stones.

Settings and Metals

Every moissanite ring can be set in your choice of style and metal. Choose a solitaire for simplicity, a halo for extra size, or a three-stone for meaning. Then pick a metal:

9K gold

The best value, with a lower gold content.

14K gold

A balanced choice. Try 14K white gold.

18K gold

A higher gold content and a richer colour.

Platinum

Naturally white and very durable. See platinum.

Moissanite Prices in Australia

Moissanite usually costs less than a lab-grown diamond of the same size, and far less than a natural diamond. There are three reasons. Moissanite can be grown in large quantities. Production is fast. And there is no scarcity premium.

The cost of moissanite depends on a few things. Use the table to see what moves the total.

What you pay for What changes it Tip
Loose stone Carat size, shape and cut Choose the size you need, and compare millimetres
Setting metal 9K, 14K, 18K gold or platinum The price rises in that order
Setting style A solitaire is the simplest. Halo and three-stone add detail A solitaire keeps the moissanite price lower
Loose stone vs finished ring A loose stone is the gem only. A ring adds the setting and finishing Compare like for like
Design Custom design is free No design fee to budget for
Every moissanite ring in the grid above shows its price in AUD, and prices update with stock. You can pay with Afterpay or a 50% deposit. Customers can also place an order with a small deposit, such as $500, $1000 and pay the rest later at 0% interest.

What Is Moissanite?

Moissanite is a lab-created gemstone made of silicon carbide. French chemist Henri Moissan found it in 1893 in a meteorite crater. Natural moissanite is so rare that every stone sold today is grown in a lab. It is prized for its strong fire and everyday durability.

Moissanite vs Diamond, Lab-Grown and Cubic Zirconia

Moissanite sits between cubic zirconia and diamond in terms of hardness, and it shows more coloured fire than both. Use the table to compare the four stones.

Composition Silicon carbide (SiC) Carbon (C) Carbon (C) Zirconium dioxide (ZrO₂)

Is Moissanite a Real Diamond?

No. Moissanite is silicon carbide, a different gemstone from diamond, which is pure carbon. People often search for "moissanite diamond", but moissanite is a diamond look-alike, not a diamond. A lab-grown diamond is different because it is chemically the same as a mined diamond. Moissanite is not graded on the GIA or IGI diamond scale.

Durability: What Mohs 9.25 Means Day to Day

At 9.25 on the Mohs scale, moissanite is hard enough to wear every day. Only diamond, at 10, is harder. Cubic zirconia, at 8.5, is softer. Over decades, moissanite can pick up fine scuffs where a diamond will not. Remove it before heavy work.

Why Moissanite Sparkles Differently

Moissanite shows more coloured flashes than a diamond. Its dispersion is 0.104, against 0.044 for diamond. That means more rainbow flashes, most visible in larger stones and direct light. A diamond looks whiter and crisper. Neither is better. It comes down to taste.

No. Moissanite does not cloud, fade or change colour with normal wear. Some older or lower-grade stones show a faint yellow or green tint under certain lights. Ours are colourless to near-colourless. View your stone in daylight and indoor light before you decide.

It can, with some testers. Thermal testers measure how fast heat moves through a stone, and moissanite moves heat like a diamond. So a basic tester may read it as a diamond. Testers that check electrical conductivity can tell the two apart.

A moissanite certificate is not the same as GIA or IGI diamond grading. GIA and IGI grade diamonds, and moissanite is a different gemstone. At Rings of Australia, each stone is graded in-house for cut and fire and inspected before it ships. Every ring has a lifetime manufacturing warranty and 30-day returns.

Moissanite holds little resale value, so buy it to wear, not to sell. Insure it for replacement cost. Keep your receipt and any appraisal safe.

Caring for Moissanite

Clean moissanite with warm water, mild soap and a soft brush. Then:

Remove it for the gym, cleaning and swimming.
Store it apart from other jewellery.
Check the setting
once a year.

No. They are different materials with different hardness, fire and price. Moissanite is silicon carbide, and cubic zirconia is zirconium dioxide. The comparison table above shows the figures side by side.

We stock moissanite in 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 carat sizes, measured in diamond equivalent weight. The nine shapes are round, oval, cushion, pear, emerald, princess, radiant, marquise and asscher.

Often, yes, if the shape and millimetre size match the setting. Moissanite is sold by diamond equivalent weight, so compare millimetres, not carats. Ask a jeweller to check the fit before setting.

It is hard to tell at a glance. Moissanite shows more rainbow flashes in direct light, while a diamond looks whiter and crisper. A moissanite-ready tester gives a clear answer.
